Why the data agreement matters
FERPA lets a district share education records with a vendor without parent consent when the vendor acts as a school official under district control, as described in 34 CFR § 99.31(a)(1)(i)(B). That requires an agreement covering use, security and deletion.
When a teacher pastes an evaluation into a personal chat account, no such agreement usually exists. Some AI providers offer education or enterprise plans with contractual protections; districts should review those terms directly rather than assume them.
Plausible is not the same as accurate
Large language models generate likely text. In an IEP that can mean a standards code with the right shape but the wrong content, or a baseline that sounds reasonable but did not come from any assessment. A reviewer has to catch every one.
TPA Ventures constrains generation to the student's documents and a verified standards library, and shows its source for every number.
When a general tool is fine
General-purpose assistants are useful for tasks with no student data: drafting a parent newsletter, brainstorming accommodations in the abstract, or explaining a concept. TPA Ventures is for the work that involves a specific student's records.
